What are the levels of measurement?
- Nominal
- Ordinal
- Interval
- Ratio (don’t need to know about this)
What is levels of measurement?
Levels of data, in order of sophistication.
Applies to data that is measured and recorded (the DV).
Does the level of data refer to the scores of each individual participant or the means, medians, etc?
The scores of each individual participant.
What is nominal data?
Data in separate categories/groups - counting the number of times a behaviour is shown.
What is ordinal data?
The data is in some way rank ordered.
This also includes subjective data (based on opinions) as the scale is based on people’s rankings.
What is interval data?
When data is measured using units of equal intervals. eg: cms, seconds, degrees.
Which test is the most sophisticated?
Interval test
Which test is the least sophisticated?
Nominal data
