LESSON 3f: CELL INCLUSSIONS and MOTILITY Flashcards
The structure that allows bacteria to survive harsh conditions.
Endospore
what bacteria that are capable of endospore sporulation process?
Pathogenic bacteria
The function of endospore:
Has high levels of small acid soluble protein, that protects the cell from UV rays, and denaturation.
Straighter and thinner than flagella.
Fimbriae and Pili
Short attachment pili that sticks to surface and create thin pellicle.
Fimbriae
Filamentous structure made out of protein: about 1 or 2 present per cell.
Pili
A pili that is required for surface motility (twitching) and also serve as adhesion.
TYPE IV Pili
The pili that is use for horizontal gene transfer, or also known as sex pilus
Horizontal Gene transfer
The long hair like structure attached to the cell, main purpose for motility.
Flagella
Formation of flagella: found at the end of the cell
monotrichous
Formation of flagella: found both ends of the cell
amphitrichous
Formation of flagella: 2 flagella at one end
lopotrichous
Formation of flagella: that is found every cell wall of the cell.
peritrichous
No flagella formation.
atrichous
rotation order for movement of cell using flagella:
Clockwise: reverse or tumble (peritrichous)
C-clockwise: run
