Lecture-Endocrine Flashcards
What are endocrine cells?
Glandular secretory cells that release hormones directly into the interstitial fluids, lymphatic system or blood.
What are hormones?
Chemical messengers that stimulate specific cells or tissues into action.
Suprarenal
Endocrine gland that helps initiate a sympathetic response
Interstitial endocrine cells
Responsible for the production of androgens
Pituitary gland 2 loves
Anterior lobe- 7 hormones
Posterior 2 hormones released in the hypothalamus
Thyroid stimulating hormone
Targets the thyroid gland
Causes it to release calcitonin, thyroxine and triiodothyronine
Adrenocorticotropic hormone
Targets the suprarenal cortex
Causes it to release glucocorticoids
Parathyroid glands
Monitor blood levels of calcium ions produce parathyroid hormone which increases blood calcium ion levels
Suprarenal glands
Cortex aldosterone
Medulla inner cortisol and corticosteroids epinephrine and norepinephrine
