lecture 2 - Immune cells and organs Flashcards
(5 cards)
what is a primary lymphoid organ
this is where lymphocytes are produced via lymphopoiesis.
what is a secondary lymphoid organ ? and give three examples
where lymphocytes can interact with antigen and with other lymphocytes
spleen
lymph nodes
mucosal associated lymphoid tissues (MALT)
what is MALT
mucosal associated lymphoid tissues - a diffuse system of small concentrations of lymphoid tissue found in various submucosal membrane sites of the body, such as the gastrointestinal tract, thyroid, breast, lung, salivary glands, eye, and skin.
what do Hassall’s corpuscle
do ?
these contain fibreblasts which secrete soluble factors essential for the development of regulatory t lymphocytes
what do chemokines do ?
these are small soluble molecules specific to particular lymphocytes and guide these lymphocytes to different positions within lymph nodes
