Entrance wounds
surrounded by a reddish/reddish-brown zone of abraded skin. This margin of abrasion is a scraping or scuffing of the skin caused by the bullet as it pushes inward. On histopath coagulation is present due to heat.
exit wounds
typically larger, more irregular, and do not possess an abrasion ring or coagulation.
Can appear round, oval, slit-like, stellate, crescent shaped, or completely irregular
most valuable diagnostic procedure for all potential gunshot victims
radiographs
what do radiographs help determine with gunshot victim
determine if bullet/fragment is within the body,
locating fragments,
ID type of ammunition,
documenting path of bullet
no matter what the range is entrance wounds are surrounded by
red zone of abraded skin
typically larger, irregular, do not have an abrasion ring
exit wounds
