Q

Phase 1 clinical trials typically do NOT have ______ groups. They focus on the pharmacology (what it’s doing in the body, where it ends up, etc.) and the safety.

Phase 2 and 3 trials are very similar, but Phase ____ works to confirm Therapeutics of new drug, while Phase ____ initially explores the Therapeutics.

Q

Number Needed to Treat (NNT) =

A

Number Needed to Treat (NNT) = 1 / (Rate in Treatment group - Rate in control group)

NNT = 1 / Risk Reduction, so let’s say the treatment group in an experiement had a disease rate of 5% and the control group had a disease rate of 10%, the Risk Reduction is the absolute value of 5% - 10% = 5% risk reduction –> so here, NNT = 1 / 0.5 = 20.

This means you need to treat 20 people in order to save 1.
