Comparing two or more bits of archaeological data to determine which one is older, without giving a specific age.

The interpretation of the layering of the ground.

Storage, space to lay out materials, equipment for measuring, illustrating (drawing, photos), and cleaning.

About three times the amount of time used on the site.

Mass spectrometers, XRF instruments, scanning electron microscopes, and more.
What is an assemblage in archaeology?
All materials collected from a single site or layer.

Artifact cleaning and sorting.
Why is artifact conservation important?
Organic material may need conservation as they decay quickly in a new context.

Labeling numbers in the order they are discovered.

Recording details of artifacts.
