Lecture 1 - tissue types Flashcards
What are the four main types of tissue?
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nervous
What type of tissue is skin?
Epithelial
What are the two forms of Epithelial tissue?
Epithelial and Glands
What are the two types of glands?
Endocrine and Exocrine
What are the functions of Epithelial tissue? (4)
Protection, secretion, controls permeability, lines internal pathways
Which tissue is Blood and Lymph?
Connective
Which tissue is bone and cartilage?
Connective
What are the functions of connective tissue? (6)
Fills internal space, structure, support, energy storage, organ protection, transport of fluids/materials
Which tissue type makes up the most of our body?
Muscle (50%)
Which tissue type makes up the least of our body?
Nervous (2%)
What does DFCT stand for?
Dense fibrous connective tissue
What are the two types of Connective tissue?
Dense (DFCT) and Loose
What is the main function of Muscle tissue?
Contraction for movement
What are the three main types of Muscle tissue?
Skeletal, Cardiac and Smooth
What is the function of Skeletal muscle?
Attaches to bones allowing for controlled movement
