Lecture 1: Introduction to Pathology Flashcards
What is pathology?
The study of the cellular response to injury or stress. As well as the causes of injury and death. Fundamentally the study of disease.
What is general pathology?
What is systemic pathology?
What are the four aspects of disease process?
Aetiology - can be genetic or acquired
Pathogenesis
Morphologic Changes
Clinical Manifestations
Describe Aetiology.
Describe Pathogenesis.

Describe Clinical Manifestations.
What happens when stress on a cell goes too far?
Prolonged cell stress can result in reversible injury. However if the stress is too much, irreversible injury will occur, and the cell with either necrose or initiate apoptosis.
What is ischaemia?
WRITE UP QUESTIONS FOR TABLE
What are 4 cellular adaptations that are reversible?
- Hypertrophy
- Hyperplasia
- Atrophy
- Metaplasia
What is Hypertrophy?
What is Hyperplasia?
What is the difference between physiological hyperplasia and pathological hyperplasia? Give examples.
Hormonal hyperplasia and compensatory hyperplasia are examples of physiological hyperplasia.
