Lecture 1 - Intro Flashcards
Define biomechanics
The study of structure and function of biological systems by means of the methods of mechanics
What are the two types of biomechanics?
Comparative and human
What is comparative biomechanics?
Studies all types of biological systems and all types of locomotion
What is human biomechanics?
Studies human movement, systems, and behavior. The human machine
What are the principles of biomechanics?
Mechanical, biolgical, and multi-segment
What are the two areas of classical mechanics?
Dynamics and static
What is dynamic classical mechanics?
Involves movement
What is static classical mechanics?
Does not involve movement
Define mechanics
The study of forces and their effects
Define kinematics
The study of motion without consideration for what is causing the motion (angle, position)
Define kinetics
The study of forces that cause motion. How much force/momentum is generated
What is linear kinematics/kinetics?
Occurs along a linear path
What is angular kinematics/kinetics?
Occurs rotationally
Which principle of biomechanics is related to human movement?
Mechanical
