Lecture 1 block 2 Flashcards
what is differential heating of the earth caused by
surface area and atmosphere
how does surface area affect differential heating of the earth
total SA is higher at higher latitudes, higher SA leads to lower radiant energy
how does atmosphere affect differential heating of the earth
energy gets filtered through thicker atmosphere layer at higher altitudes
where are clockwise currents located
northern hemisphere
where are counterclockwise currents located
southern hemisphere
what does ADH do
conserves water at the kidney and decreases sweating which will have negative effect on thermoregulation
what is there renin-angiotensin-aldosterone pathway
aldosterone will increase sodium and water reabsorption at the kidney in an effort to increase blood volume. angiotensin II will cause vasoconstriction of arterioles in an effort to increase BP
what do epinephrine and norepinephrine do
help mobilize fuels needed for exercise and increase heart rate and contractility
what does cortisol do
it is released in response to long duration of exercise and stress. stimulates gluconeogenesis in the liver to maintain blood glucose levels during long duration exercise and lipolysis to provide an alternate fuel and spare glucose
