What is peer reviewed journals
Publication are reviewed by several experts in the field prior to publication s. Experts are chosen by journal’s editor
What does retraction mean
Occur when a scientific findings is found to be wrong due to error or integrity
What does scientific approach not do
Never 100% sure of a theory.
Reach a final conclusion, we have ‘paradise shift, change in approach or underlying assumptions
What does eminence-based mean
The “expert” said so
What does eloquence-base mean
It was said very well
What does confidence- based mean
It was said with lots of confidence
What does providence-based mean
“God” said so because he/she cares
What does celebrity-based mean
It was said by someone well known
What does democracy base mean
It was said by a majority of people
Why do we believe weird things
- Post hoc
- Confirmation bias
- confirmation bias (rely on something that happened)
- cognitive dissonance
- pattern recognition (clustering illusion)
- selecting from large amount of data
- availability cascade
