Lec 5 Chest Radiography Flashcards
1
Q
What is physics of how xray works?
A
- electrons accelerated in vaccume tube and collide with anode usually tungsten
2
Q
How are characteristic xrays generated?
A
- high energy electron collides with inner shell electron, both electrons ejected leaving hole in inner layer
- hole filled by outer layer electron
3
Q
How are bremsstrahlung x rays generated
A
- when electron passes near nucleus it is slowed down and its path is deflected
energy lost is emitted
4
Q
Are most xrays generated characteristic or bremsstrahlung
A
mostly bremsstrahlung (~80%)
5
Q
What is level of attenuation [absorption] of different tissues?
A
air < fat < soft tissue < bone < metal
black –> gray –> white
6
Q
What 3 different types of projections?
A
- frontal posterior-anterior [PA] = requires standing up
- frontal anterior-posterior [AP]
- lateral
