Leaf Structure Flashcards
Stoma
Gap at bottom of leaf between the guard cell, allows breathing
Upper epidermids
The epidermis (outer layer of a plant) at the top
Lower epidermis
The epidermis (outer layer of a plant) at the bittom
Chloroplast
Green things which contain chlorophyll and where photosynthesis takes place
Waxy cutile
A thin layer on the epidemis, it reduces the water lost from the leaf
Paliside mesophyll
Below the upper epidermis, where most the photosynthesis happens
Spongy mesophyll
Have large air spaces between them. Allow movement and exchange of gas, especially oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor. They contain chloroplast, located inbetween the paliside mesophyll and lower epidermis
Guard cell
A pair of curved shape cellls surrounding the stomata. They control the opening and closing of stomata
