Autocratic/Authoritarian
• makes decisions for the group
• motivated by coercion (force)
• communication occurs down the chain of command; highest to lowest
• staff work output is high
• effective for employees with little or no formal education
Democratic
• includes the group when decisions are made
• motivates by supporting staff achievements
• communication occurs up & down chain of command
• work output by staff is good quality when cooperation & collaboration are necessary
Laissez Faire
•makes very few decisions
•little planning
• motivation is largely the responsibility of individual staff members
• communication occurs up & down the chain of command & between group members
• work output is low unless informal leader evolves from group
•effective with professional employees
Transformational leader
Empower and inspire followers to achieve a common long-term vision
Transactional leader
Focus on immediate problems, maintaining the status quo, and using rewards to motivate followers
Authentic leader
Inspire others to follow by modeling, a strong, internal moral code
Servant
- Enriches the lives of individuals
- Builds better organizations
- Begins with a natural feeling that one wants to serve
Bureaucratic leaderhship
• follows strict chain of command
• follows rules to the T
• not good with rapid decision making
