Makes the text seem authoritative, accurate and believable. They serve an evidential purpose
Adjectives
Helps to depict emotions, people and place
Repetition
Makes the text more engaging and engaging and interesting to read
Triplets
Makes ideas and concepts catchy and memorable
Anecdotes
Can evoke an emotional response. Can make a text appear more personal
Opinion
Sways the reader towards the writer’s viewpoint
Listing
Highlights key information and draws attention to several items at once
Figurative language and imagery (personification, metaphors and similes)
Makes a text more interesting, vivid or dramatic. Can be used to create mood and emotion
Using comparison
Highlights key differences of information in a text
Technical or subject specific vocabulary
The reader may be unfamiliar with this language. It can add further authenticity

Helps to emphasise and draws attention to key ideas within a text
Humour
Makes the text more engaging and interesting to read
