Labs Flashcards
What is the main purpose of a retrograde urethrogram (RUG)
assess for strictures/trauma causing abnormalites
What is one thing you would want to do before a transurethral catheterization
a RUG
What is one thing you’d want to check prior to perfroming a cystoscopy
blood thinner meds (warfarin) so they don’t bleed out when inserted
The intravenous pyelogram (IVP) is mainly used for:
xray and contrast media to assess for stones or cancerous lesions
A VCUG (voiding cystourethral gram) mainly checks for:
function of the kidneys-ureter system mainly for dysfunction seen as reflux
what is said to be the gold standard for RAS
renal angiogram
this is a less invasive test to visualize blood vessels & RAS than the angiogram however it is NOT good at viewing stented vessels
magnetic resonance angiogram
this test is good for visualizing renal artherosclerosis, cx renal blood flow for transplant & good for viewing stented vessels
CT angiogram
this test which results in normal excludes renovascular HTN
captopril renography (although limited use in pt with raised creatine or artherosclerosis)
