(tongs symbol) use tongs or heat-proof gloves to handle hot objects

(fire symbol) open flames are used; loose hair and clothing should be tied back; also alerts the hazard of a flammable liquid
corrosive substance
(acid flask symbol) corrosive substance is used, avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. do not inhale vapors
breakage
(broken glass symbol) this activity may cause a flask to break
dangerous vapors
(smoky symbol) lab uses poisonous or noxious vapors. Must use a fume hood when directed. do not inhale directly; waft smells with hand
explosion
(explosive symbol) explosive situation potential. follow instructions very carefully
poison
(skull symbol) poisonous substance. do not let it come in contact with skin and do not inhale its vapors
electrical shock
(plug symbol) electrical shock could happen. unplug all apparatus when not in use
radiation
(radiation symbol) radioactive substance. follow instructions carefully
disposal
(trash symbol) special disposal is needed. follow instructions
hygiene
(wash symbol) wash hands thoroughly after a lab. never touch face or eyes during a lab
