Lab Equipment Flashcards
What does refractometer measure?
Refractive index of particles within a liquid.
What is measured during a CBC?
Erythrocyte Count Leukocyte Count, Thrombocyte Count, Packed Cell Volume, Hemoglobin Concentration, RBC Indices, Total Plasma Protein, Leukocyte Differential
What Blood cell count needs to be verified under microscope if falsely low?
Thrombocytes
What is high and low thrombocyte count called?
Low: Thrombocytopenia
High: Thrombocytosis
Describe Packed Cell Volume test
Use capillary tube, fill 2/3 full. End with clay. Place in centrifuge on HCT setting. Packed cells on bottom, serum on top. Read Capillary tube reading chart.
What is high and low Erythrocyte Count referred to as?
High: Hemoconcentration
Low: Anemia
What is high and low Leukocyte count?
High: Leukocytosis
Low; Leukopenia
Name the Granulocytes and describe each.
Neutrophils: lobulated, Dark blue Blue
Eosinophils: slightly lobulated, Red stain
Basophils: Black stain granules
What are the two parts that make up Blood Chemistry?
Plasma and Serum
What are the electrolytes checked in a Blood chemistry?
Sodium, Potassium, Chloride
What does Cytology mean?
Microscopic study of cells.
What does Histology mean?
Microscopic study of tissues
What are the 3 properties when studying Urine?
Physical, Chemical (dipstick) and Microscopic
