LAB Chapter 2 (microscope) Flashcards
How do you see the image in the microscope?
Up side down and reverse
If you move the slide on the stage how will it appear to move to you?
If you move the slide toward you it will move away if you move the slide to the left it will move to the right. It moves backwards visually from how you move it physically
The two parts of the lenses that allow you to see the image
The ocular eyepiece in the objective lenses.
What is the total magnification TM
Ocular eyepiece is 10 X which is then multiplied to whatever magnification the objective lens has
Example If you have a 40 X objective lens it would be 40×10 which is 400X magnification
Using high power lens what are the two things that are different in the image as compared to low power lens
1 image is much larger
2 I can see more detail
What happens to the depth of field as you move higher in magnification
The depth of field decreases
What is the base
Supports the microscope and holds a light source
What is the arm of the microscope
It’s the part of the microscope that extends from the base and supports the ocular lens
What is the mechanical stage
Holds the specimen mounted on the slide.
What is the lamp on a microscope?
It is a light source that illuminates the slide from underneath
Explain the lenses and where they are located with the names
Ocular lenses or what you look through And have a 10x magnification We are located at the top of the arm
Ejective lenses have a magnification of 10, 40 and 100 X. We are located at the bottom of the nose piece and rotates to be used just above the specimen
Where is the condenser and what does it do
Located directly above the light source it concentrates the light on the specimen
Where is the iris diaphragm and what does it do
attached to the condenser that regulates the amount of light passing through the condenser
Where is the course adjustment in the fine adjustment knob and what do they do?
Located on the other side just above the base below the stage. Course adjustment raises and lowers the mechanical stage rapidly to assist in focus. Fine adjustment raises and lowers it too much lesser degree assisting in fine focusing of the Image
What is resolution
The ability to discern the details of the image
