Lab 07 Flashcards
What is the equation of cellular respiration
Organic compound + O2 -> CO2 +H20 + Energy
Where does cellular respiration occur?
The mitochondria
What happens to succinate
In the citric acid cycle succinate is oxidized into fumerate and FAD+ is reduced into FADH2
What is the enzyme used for succinate
Succinate dehydrogenase
What are some characteristics of enzymes
They speed up chemical reactions, they have a complex 3D structure, they show optimal activity over a narrow range of temperature and pH, they can be reused
What is a redox reaction
A redox reaction is a reaction when one compound is oxidized (loses H+) and one compound is reduced (gains H+)
What is the formula for photosynthesis
6CO2 + 12H2O + light -> C6H12O6 + 6O2 +6H2O
What does the light dependent reaction produce
NADPH is produced from NADP+ to send to the Calvin cycle,
What happens with water in the photosystems
Water is split into hydrogen and oxygen in the chloroplast and light powers the movement of electrons through the ETC in the photosystem
What is the independent variable
Presence of enzyme/ presence of light
What is the dependent variable
Change in colour
What is the control group
Group with enzyme and light
What is the treatment groups
Groups with no enzyme
Group with no light
What is the hypothesis
The presence of enzymes will catabolize the reaction and the solution will change in colour
What is blue dye used for
Blue dye is a hydrogen acceptor that turns clear when it is reduced
