What do humble expressions… express?
An action you do out of respect for others.
The other is included or marked in the sentence
How to use it?
お + Verb stem +する
For words you KNOW were used.
会う、かす、かりる (meet, lend, borrow)
ご OR お + する verb
もらう becomes いただく
あげる becomes さしあげる
うかがく is a special verb for both visiting and asking
Differences between Honorific Expressions, Extra-modest Expressions, and Humble Expressions?
Honorific: exalt the subject of the sentence, NOT YOU.
Extra-modest Expression: Talk modesty of what you do. Can include your family or company. NEVER INCLUDES PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF YOUR GROUP.
Humble Expressions: DEMOTE yourself to RAISE another. Humble your actions towards a respected other person.
