L12-extra questions Flashcards
Give two conditions in which we would see a fatty liver
Alcoholism/obesity/diabetes
Give an example of two opsonins
CRP/C3b/C4b/IgG/igM
Explain briefly how an inflammatory exudate forms
Tissue injury stimulates the release of vasoactive mediators, the vasculature transiently vasoconstricts and then vasodilates. There is an increase in hydrostatic pressure and an increse in permeability due to the effects of inflammatory mediators. Fluid moves out into the tissue and plasma inflamatory proteins follow thus maintaining the tissue colloid pressure and keeping the fluid there
Give an example of a chemoattractant
Thrombin/C3a/C5a/endotoxin
Name two cells present in a granuloma
Giant cells/epithelioid histiocytes
Give three diseases in which we see immune granulomas
TB/Leprosy/sarcoidosis/syphilis/Wegners granulomatosis/
Give three risk factors for wound healing
Steroids/obesity/diabetes
What are abdominal adhesions?
Bands of fibrous tissue that form between tissues and organs in fibrous repair in the abdomen
Where do the clotting cascade components get made?
In the liver
Warfain takes longer to metabolise than heparin. Give two conditions for which you woulf give it
DVT/PE/following cardiac valve replacement
Give three risk factors for DVT
Immobilisation/surgery/pregnancy/smoking/obesity/malignancy/old age/the contraceptive pill
What is a saddle embolus?
An embolus that forms over the bifurcation of the pulmonary trunk
What is bradykinins functions in the inflammatory response?
Contributes to pain sensation
Where would a brain aneurysm most likely embolise from?
Cardiac atrium
Paracetomol overdose is toxic to the liver directly but also via the depletion of glutathion which protects against oxidative damage by lipid peroxidation, T/F?
T
