KINGDOM PROTISTA Flashcards
Protista?
Unicellular eukaryotic.
Eukaryotic have Well developed nucleus.
membrane bound cell organelles
What are the living organisms included in protest?
1) dinoflagellates
2) crypsophytes
3) euglenoids
4) slime moulds
5)protozoa
Some basic knowledge of Protista.
1) most controversial Kingdom.
2)Connecting link between prokaryotic and multicellular eukaryotic.
Nutrition in Protista
1) Halophytes
plant like nutrition (photosynthesis)
2) holozoic.
Animal like nutrition.
3) Osmotrophic/ absorptive
saprophytic: dead organic matter.
Parasite: absorbs food from living Organism.
ex: slime mould
4) mixotrophic
more than one type of nutrition. Both autotrophic + heterotrophic.
ex: euglena
Reproduction in protista.
1] asexual reproduction.
2] sexual reproduction.
Asexual reproduction.
1] binary fission.
ex: dinoflagellates,
Euglenoids, crysophytes
2] spore formation.
ex: slime mould
Sexual reproduction.
(Sexual reproduction was first found in this Kingdom)
1} formation of gametes.
2} fusion of gametes.
3} formation of zygote.
1] isogamy.
Fusion of same gamets.(they should be morphologically and physiologically similar)
2] anisogamy
they are morphologically dissimilar.
3] oogamy.
It is a developed form of Anisogamy. Male gamete is small and motile/ immotile. And female gametes, large and immotile. Female garment is not come outside the female reproductive cell. Fertilization takes place in sex organs.
Life cycle of Protist
1] Haplontic life cycle.
This gametes are haploid (n). these gametes fuse to form diploid(2n) zygote. After that meiosis takes place in zygote as a result of which haploid cells are formed again.
2] Diplontic life cycle.
meiosis takes place in diploid(2n) cell, due to which haploid gametes are formed. now haploid gametes fuse to form diploid zygote. And after that mitosis takes place in zygote, which again from diploid cells.
