Patricians
Patricians are rich land owners in ancient Rome. They had all the power.
Roman Empire
the Roman Empire was an area in Europe about two thousand years ago that included Italy and all the areas around the Mediterranean Sea all ruled by Rome.
Plebeians
The Plebeians were ordinary workers and farmers. Most Plebeians were poor and had no time for politics.
Domus
A domus is a house in the town where rich Romans known as Patricians lived. It had a walled garden, a pool, slaves quarters and an atrium.
Atrium
An atrium was a large open space inside the front door. It had marble columns and bronze statues of god or the owners. There were also pools, flowers and fountains.
impluvium
the impluvium was the sunken part of the atrium that collected all the rain water from the roof
peristyle
A peristyle is a courtyard with a covered walkway all the way around it with columns holding up the ceiling
insulae
an insulae was a block of flats in towns where plebeians lived
thermopolia
thermopolia were food shops which lined the streets, the plebeians ate there food here not in their flats [insulae]

Toga is a long t shirt that men wear
