What are angels?
Muslims believe angels bring the word of God to the prophets. Sunni Muslims the belief of angels is one of the six articles of faith.
Description of angels
Part of the unseen world beings created by God from light
Why can angels receive God’s work directly and pass them on?
It is because they are pure and sinless
What do angels do?
Some are guardian angels - they look after each person throughout their lives
Others are responsible for recording a ‘book of deeds’ - storing everything each person thinks, says or does
Angel Israfil will blow a trumpet to announce the Day of Judgement
Angels will escort people to paradise and will guard the gates of hell
Angel Jibril
He is an archangel (a special angel with higher s) who is a trusted messenger of God.
He was the angel who relayed the Qur’an to Muhammad.
Muslims believe that Jibril first appeared to Muhammad when he was a child. He and Mika’il came to Muhammad during the night and purified his heart so that he would be able to receive God’s revelation. When Muhammad was 40, he returned in a blaze of light when Muhammad was meditating at Mount Hira and told him the revelations God wanted him to have.
Jibril brings spiritual nourishment to humans.
Angel Mika’il
Another high-ranking archangel known for his mercy to Christians and Jews.
Muslims believe that he is the angel of mercy.
He rewards the righteous and sends rain, thunder and lightning to Earth.
Mika’il brings nourishment to Earth.
