irregular verbs Flashcards
Nouns that end in -ista (il turista), -ma (il problema), and -amma (il programma) are usually masculine. If the noun refers to a person, it does not change in the feminine (il turista - la turista). In the plural, these nouns are regular (il turista - i turisti / la turista - le turiste).

In some cases, the masculine and feminine of nouns can also be irregular. Usually, we form the feminine of these nouns by removing the last letter and adding -essa:
lo studente - la studentessa (the student)
il professore - la professoressa (the professor)
il poeta - la poetessa (the poet)
il cantante - la cantante

As you already know, some nouns can stay exactly the same when they refer to a woman or a man.

Be careful! Some words can change meaning if they are masculine or feminine.
