What is Iron?
Iron is a mineral element, it is needed to form red blood cells
Why do you think adolescence girls often have a lack of iron in their diet?
- Vegetarian
- Red meat could be unpopular with teenage girls
- Think meat is fattening
What happens if you don’t have enough Iron?
Red blood cells wont be able to carry oxygen around the body. This may lead to tiredness weakness and anemia
How can you make sure you get enough Iron?
Good sources: liver, kidney, corned beef, cocoa
What does Vitamin C help with?
Helps grow and repair body tissues
Helps to build and maintain skin
Helps to keep bones, teeth, gums and blood vessels healthy
What happens if you don’t obtain enough VIT C?
General WIPMJ loss of weight and fatigue.
Gums bleed teeth loosen
Slow healing of wounds
Anemia
What group suffered from Scurvy?
Sailors
How can you make sure that you get enough Vit C?
Rich sources: Blackcurrants, Green peppers.
