Introduction & Cell Structure Flashcards
What does limiting factor mean?
Anything that makes it more difficult for a client to achieve optimal results
What are the 5 limiting factors?
Genetics Exercise Physiology Mindset Nutrition
If a client is sedentary what are they cultivating
Metabolic decline, fat gain, muscle loss, and lifestyle related disease.
What are the 5 important criteria that all good nutrition plans must meet?
Good nutrition:
properly controls energy balance
provides nutrient density
Achieves health, body composition and performance goals.
Is honest outcome based
Is sustainable for both us and the planet
What does outcome based mean?
Use of specific, measurable outcomes and evidence to make decisions, rather than nebulous or dogmatic definitions of what’s “good” or “correct”
What does energy balance mean?
It is the relationship between all sources of energy intake and energy output.
What does nutrient density mean?
Foods that provide substantial amounts of nutrients with only the necessary calories
What does calorie density mean?
Energy provided per unit of food; high calorie density foods provide many calories in a small portion. While low calorie density foods provide fewer calories in a large portion.
What is insulin resistance?
It is a condition where normal amounts of insulin are inadequate to produce a normal response from fat, muscle and liver cells.
What are the 11 organ systems found in the body?
Integumentary (skin, hair, nails) Immune Skeletal Muscular Nervous Endocrine Circulatory Respiratory Digestive Urinary Reproductive
What is the order of the organisation of life from largest to smallest?
Organism you the human body Organ systems group of organs working together Organs Tissues formed by similar cells Cells consisting of many organelles Organelle made up of different chemicals Chemicals made up of molecules Molecules made up of atoms
Define epithelial tissue
Tissue composed of cellular layers that protect the outer surfaces of the human body, such as, skin, mucosa and intestinal lining
What is a phytochemical?
Chemical substance obtained from plants that’s biologically active but non - nutritive.
What is a co factor?
Non- protein compound that interacts that interacts with another substance to facilitate a transformation. Minerals perfecting the shape of the substrate - enzymes .
What is potential energy?
Energy stored in the physical system.
Later released by breaking the chemical bonds between macronutrients.
