What is the introduction?
To what extent was the separate but equal decision of the supreme court the main obstacle facing black Americans in achieving civil rights before 1941.
During the period of 1918-1941, black people living in American were subjected to discrimination from both individuals, organisations, as well as the system they were forced to live under. Historians have identified a number of of obstacles that prohibited black people from achieving their owed rights. Some historians argue that legal bias moreover the separate but equal decision made by the Supreme Court in 1896 was the most impactful obstacle to the black population. However, other historians argue that popular prejudice was a more pressing factor in the postponed achievement of black civil rights, other historians point to white supra as it organisations such a the kkk being the most impactful obstacle. This essay will argue that although Legal bias and the separate but equal decision made a massive impact in America’s black population achieving civil rights it was not the most impactful when compared to the widespread and deep-rooted popular prejudice found in the USA between 1918-41.
