Types of Movement: (9)

A
  1. Flexion/ Extension: Flexion=forward, Extension= back
  2. Abduction/adduction: AB= movement away, AD= movement towards midline
  3. Pronation/Supination: Pro= face behind(backwards), Sup= holding Soup/forward
  4. Plantar FLexion/ Dorsiflexion: P=down, D=up (WITH ANKLE)
  5. Inversion/Eversion: IN= inwards, E= outwards (WITH ANKLE)
  6. Protraction/Retraction: Pro= forwards, Re= pull back (SHOUDLERS)
  7. Rotation: turning of NECK/TRUNK
  8. Circumduction: in circle/all around **only movement that “slices” all three planes (HIP/SHOULDER)
  9. Lateral Flexion: turn to side (lateral movement) (TRUNK/ANKLE/NECK)

Bones 3 primary functions:

A
  1. Protect vital organs and structures from trauma: brain protected by skull, heart/lungs protected by ribs
  2. Structures acted on by muscles to create movement
  3. Produce blood cells, store minerals (calcium, phosphorous)
