Define intraperitoneal cavities?
Spaces that can collect fluid (Ascites)
What is the difference between exudate and transudate?
Exudate is malignant ascites and transudate is benign.
What does FAST scan stand for?
Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma.
What is the purpose of a FAST scan?
Looking for free intraperitoneal fluid or hemoperitoneum in trauma patients.
What is the subphrenic space?
Inferior to diaphragm. Between diaphragm/liver and diaphragm/spleen.
What is Morison’s pouch?
Right posterior subhepatic space, located inferior to the liver.
Where is the lesser sac located?
Between pancreas and stomach.
What are paracolic gutters?
Lateral sides of abdomen, next to colon.
What is the retropubic space?
Anterior to bladder, also known as the space of Retzius.
What is the anterior CDS?
Space between bladder and uterus in females; does not exist in males.
What is the posterior CDS?
- Space between uterus and rectum in females;
- between bladder and rectum in males.
What are retroperitoneal organs?
Organs under the peritoneum, covered anteriorly by peritoneum.
What is found in the anterior pararenal space?
- Pancreas
- duodenum
- ascending and descending colon
- lymph
What is contained in the perirenal space?
- Kidney
- adrenal glands
- ureter
What is located in the posterior pararenal space?
Fat
