Intro Flashcards
What is the heirarchy of the body
Chemical-> Molecules -> cells -> tissue -> organ -> organ system -> organism
What is physiology
The study of the mechanisms behind the bodies various functions
What are the chemical compounds of life?
Nitrogen, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen
What is homeostasis?
The overwhelming mechanisms used by the body to keep it in balance (negative feedback, positive feedback and feed forward)… Dynamic equilibrium
What is differentiation?
When cells are formed to complete a certain role it is often determined by their structure
Types of tissues
Muscle, connective, epithelial, neural
Cell membranes describe the components and the fluid mosaic model
Phospholipid bilayer.. Polar head (hydrophilic) and non polar tail (hydrophobic)
Proteins are embedded in the bilayer along
