Q

What are the 3 advantages of a communication model?

A
  1. Communication is inherently interpersonal. Interpersonal categories are truer to an understanding of the Bible as Scripture
  2. Viewing texts from an interpersonal perspective helps to minimize the “contrast” between subject and object (where I as subject come to study and interpret the text, as object).

An interpersonal model comes up more closely to the idea of the biblical text as communication

  1. Communication is rarely limited to cognitive categories. Scripture communicates cognitive propositional truth and also non-cognitive (emotive, volitional) meaning in the text

In sum, a model of Scripture as “communication” helps to expand our understanding of what the Bible is and how we ought to interpret it.
