Malabsorption Syndromes
A
•Celiac disease (celiac sprue)
- gluten senstitivity
- atrophic villi in small intestine, epithelial destruction by cytolasmic T cells
- flat epilthelia with diffuse enetritis and inflammatory epithelial infiltrate
•Tropical sprue (post infectious sprue)
- bacterial overgrowth (E. coli and hemophilus)
- epithelium and submucosa equally inflamed
- no slective villous atrophy, only minimal secondary blunting
