What is international law?
a body of rules established by custom or treaty and recognised by nations as binding in their relations with one another.
What can international law do?
govern the relationships between nation states, regulate trade and convenience and protect universal human rights.
What can international law not do?
can’t be enforced easily, be imposed on states who do not freely agree to it, and always be agreed upon due to different cultural beliefs and values.
Define International writings
provide guidance and advice for international relations and policy.
Define treaties
Are international agreements between 2 nations (bilateral) or more (multilateral) that parties sign and ratify
Role of the UN
nternational peace and security, promoting human right and upholding international law
Define Intergovernmental organisations
an entity created by treaty, involving two or more nations, to work in good faith on issues of common interest, and is subject to international law.
Define Non-government organisations
Independent entities that operate outside of human control, typically concerning humanitarian issues
