Intermediate Muscles Flashcards
What are the 3 muscles of the intermediate layer of the back?
1.) Serratus posterior superior
2.) Serratus posterior inferior
3.) Levator costorum
Do any of the intermediate muscles have multiple origins? If so, which one/s?
Yes
Serratus posterior superior has 2 origins ( SP’s C7-T2/3 + Ligamentum nuchae)
What do these muscles all have in common?
They all insert onto the ribs
What is the O&I for Serratus superior?
O: SP C7-T2/3 + Ligamentum nuchae
I: superior surfaces of ribs 2-5
What is the O&I for Serratus posterior inferior?
O: SP T11-L2
I: inferior surface of ribs 9-12
What is the O&I for levator costorum?
O: TVP’s C7-T11
I: inferior lateral to rib below
Out of these 3 muscles what is the only one to have origins on the TVP’s?
Levator Costorum
What innervates Serratus superior?
Ventral rami of T1-T4
What innervates Serratus inferior?
Ventral rami T9-T12
What innervates levator costorum?
Dorsal rami C8-T11
What muscle attaches on ribs 2-5?
Serratus posterior superior ( attaches on the superior surface)
What muscle attaches on ribs 9-12?
Serratus posterior inferior ( attaches on inferior surface, medial to their angles)
What muscle attaches inferiorly/laterally to the rib below?
Levator costorum
Out of these 3 what is the only muscle with more then one origin?
Serratus posterior superior
What is the action of Serratus posterior superior?
Elevates ribs 2-5 during forced respiration
