inside the cell Flashcards
what is a nuclear envelope
it is a a highly regulated membrane barrier that separates the nucleus from the rest of the cell (cytoplasm) in eukaryotic cells.
what does a nuclear envelope contain
it contains a large number of different proteins that have been implicated in chromatin organization and gene regulation.
what is the nucleoplasm
simply the space or enviroment contained within the nucleus
what is the function of the nucleuoplasm?
it stores DNA and facilitates an isolated environment where controlled transcription and gene regulation is enabled.
what does the nucleoplasm contain?
The nucleoplasm contains several non-membrane bound substructures,
such as nuclear bodies.
what is the nucleolus
The nucleolus is a spherical structure found in the cell’s nucleus whose primary function is to produce and assemble the cell’s ribosomes.
after the ribosomes get assembled in the nucleolus, where do they get transported?
to the cell cytoplasm
what is the primary function of ribosomes
acting as sites for protein synthesis
what are nuclear pores
channels in the nuclear envelope that’s composed of large complex of proteins that allows small molecules and ions to freely pass, or diffuse, into or out of the
nucleus.
do prokaryotic cells have a nucleus
No
do prokaryotes have more than one cell?
No
is DNA complexed with histones in eukaryotes
Yes
is DNA complexed with histones in Prokaryotes
No
define archea
archea are prokaryotes but share similar aspects with eukaryotes.
