Induction Motor Flashcards
What are the types of induction motor rotors?
Squirrel cage rotor
Wound rotor
Squirrel cage rotor
Conducting bars laid in slots carved into rotor face and shorted at the ends by large rings
Wound rotor
Complete 3 phase winding set mirroring stator, ends tied to slip rings on rotor shaft and shorted through brush on slip rings
Why is induction motor called rotating transformer
It works by induced voltage and current
Why is induction motor singly excited machine
Power supplied only to stator
Magnetizing reactance of induction motor is ________
Much smaller
Describe power flow of induction motor
Input electric power goes to stator cooper loss and core loss, which then goe to air gap power, after which we have rotor copper loss. Then the power is converted to mechanical and we lose friction and windage losses and stray losses before output
