-identify the questions that have the biggest impact upon reliability and adjust them
-rewrite them in a manner that reduces potential for them to be incorrectly interpreted e.g. open to closed question

-change the interview from unstructured to structured to reduce researcher bias
-use the same interviewer each time to reduce researcher bias and if not then training should be provided
