IMMS Flashcards
Where is ribosomal RNA formed?
Nucleolus of the nucleus.
Where does oxidative phosphorylation take place?
Mitochondria.
What takes place on the outer membrane of mitochondria?
Lipid synthesis and fatty acid production.
What takes place on the inner membrane of mitochondria?
Respiratory chain and ATP production.
Where does the Krebs (TCA) Cycle take place?
Matrix of the mitochondria.
What takes place in the intermembranous space of the mitochondria?
Nucleotide phosphorylation (ADP to ATP).
What is the function of the RER?
Site of protein synthesis.
List 4 functions of the golgi apparatus.
Processes macromolecules sythesised in ER. Modifies macromolecules by adding sugars. Proteolysis of peptides into active forms. Sorting of macromolecules.
What is the cis golgi network face and what does it do?
Nucleus-facing side of the golgi apparatus. Receives transport vesicles from smooth ER, and phosphorylates some proteins.
What happens in the medial golgi?
Central part of golgi apparatus. Forms complex oligosaccharides by adding sugars to lipids and peptides.
What is the trans golgi network face and what does it do?
Side of golgi apparatus facing away from the nucleus. Proteolysis and sorts macromolecules into vesicles that bud from the surface.
What is the function of vesicles?
Transport and store materials
List four things that can be found in a phospholipid bilayer.
Glycolipids, glycoproteins, cholestrol and embedded proteins.
