What trigger Myxedema coma?
A
- acute illness
- stop taking thyroid meds
- anesthesia
- hypoventilation (resp acidosis, increase if Co2)

S/S of Myxedema coma
A
4 h’s/R
- hypothermia
- hypoglycemia
- hyponatremia
- hypothension
- respiratory failure

NI for hypothyroidism
A
- increase fluid intake 3L/day
- high fiber of fresh fruits/ veg
- take meds
- little or no enemas and laxatives ( to prevent constipation)
- avoid sedating clients –>b/c it can lead resp difficulties

- Levothyroxine (synthroid)
- Liothyronine Sodium
- to increase metabolic rate; syntheic T4
- tachycardia,tremors, palpitations, angina, dysrhythmias
- check BP, Check hormone level, *avoid food with iodine
