A

Off the job - Home owner, neighbours and local council or housing association.

On the job - work out the construction detail and ask questions such as
1.does the property have cavity wall or solid walls
2.What window frames does the house have
3.Whats the house roof type?

how are old properties classified?

A

By period (time frames in history, be the name of the ruling monarch at that time e.g. Queen Victoria (house or buildings that were built before the first world war)
Georgian (1714 to 1837)
Victorian (1837 to 1901)
Edwardian (1901 to 1914)

What is traditional construction and non traditional construction?

A

Traditional - Britain houses, bungalows and low rise flats are brick or block wall construction. They have a slopping roof and either have solid or cavity walls.

Non traditional - metal framed, pre-cast concrete, in situ concrete and timber framed properties.

What is timber framed ?

A

houses with timber frame that usually have cladding on the outside that protects the property from the elements and look more appealing.

70s to 80s - approximately 108, 000 timber framed houses were built in the Uk. Timber frame made a comeback in the 90s
