HOT - Hold Over Times Flashcards
Active frost hold over times found where?
Now: USE CPA HOT app.
TC Hot document in Comply.
Table 1.
In general, approximately 45 min HOT.
Ensure LOUT is respected.
See later note stating that there is no hold over times for De-Icing only.
METAr is indicating -SN. Is that what you input for HOT?
Type IV table note 4.
Ensure you refer to snowfall intensity as function if Prevailing Visibility (TABLE 53).
New CPA HOT app helps you do this as well!
What is the hold over time for Mixed Snow and Freezing fog?
Now we just use CPA HOT!
Just know it has its own table.
TABLE 49
LOUT approx -16
Be sure to used table 53 (intensity as function of visibility.
Using Table 53 to determine Snowfall intensity based on prevailing visibility, what vis is to be used?
METAR/SPECI reported vis
OR
Flight crew observed visibility
(NOT RVR or tower vis)
Where can LOUT for each fluid be found?
TABLE 54 onwards has each fluid and description.
Question to ask?
Do we use the more conservative LOW SPEED test or the colder high speed test?
What is the holdover time of Type 1, one step de-icing only?
No hold over time according to Table 58 note 2
(Guidelines for application of Type 1 fluid)
Use CPA HOT, guidance from trainers says frost is active frost. So from charts it’s 45 min.
Is one step Anti icing possible?
Table 59: guidelines for application of type 4.
One step anti ice only possible on clean aircraft.
So why would you be anti icing in first place.
IE: usually if it’s snowing, it’s a two step process. De ice first, anti ice after.
How does the HOT get effected if you apply Deice or Anti ice with flaps out?
Reduces HOT by about 25%.
Find tables about half way through HOT document.
Adjusted HOT tables.
Where can you find the typical liquid found in each port?
Deicing fluid.
End of the HOT document.
Make sure it matches with CPA HOT.
Can manually input liquid if required.
Can you use Type one only if it’s snowing?
Yes, theoretically, type 1 has HOT with freezing precipitation, but it is a lot shorter. So for places where you de-ice in the bay, be very careful.
How long does it take to de-ice?
One truck: 15 min
Two trucks: 8-10 min
What’s the fastest you can get out of ANC if de-icing?
De-ice: 8-15 min
Start engines: 6-10 min
Taxi: 6 min
Fastest 20 min
Realistic: 30 min.
SO BEWARE IF SELECTING TYPE 1 with active precip.
Can you use HOT below LOUT?
No
If using CPA hot app, no need to use any tables now! It calculates better, so just use HOT given.
