what is the endocrine system?
a bunch of glands that produce chemicals to help the body function
what does the hormone FSH do
causes the maturation of an egg
what does the hormone LH do
stimulates the release of the egg
what does oestrogen do
maintain lining of uterus and causes the release of LH and stops the release of FSH
what does progesterone do
maintains the lining and stops release of LH and FSH
what happens to the uterus when progesterone levels fall?
the lining breaks down causing a period to be released
what is ovulation
eggs released every 28 days
where is blood glucose levels monitored
in the pancreas
what happens if blood concentration is too high
the pancreas makes insulin that makes glucose move from the blood into cells
what happens in the liver if blood concentration is too high?
the excess glucose is turned into glycogen
what happens if u have type 1 diabetes?
your pancreas cant produce enough insulin
what happens if u have type 2 diabetes
the body cells dont respond to insulin anymore.
how is type 1 diabetes treated
insulin injections
how is type 2 diabetes treated?
a carb based diet and exercise
what happens if blood glucose levels are too low?
the pancreas produces the hormone glucagon which turns glycogen into glucose
