Honda Sensing Suite & Safety Flashcards
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Alerts the driver if the vehicle is leaving a detected lane if the turn signal has not been activated.
Accuracy based on weather, speed and road condition.
How does the LDW work?
Uses camera mounted between the windshield and rearview mirror to detect lane markings.
Flashes LDW on the instrument panel or lane departure on select models MID and sounds a series of beeps to alert the driver.
Engages between 45 and 95 mph on straight or slightly curved roads.
Won’t engage in inclement weather or w/ extreme interior heat.
Can be turned on and off buy pushing button to the left of the steering column.
Lane Keepking Assist (LKAS)
Assists steering to help keep the vehicle in the middle of a detected lane.
Provides audible, visual and tactile alerts to the driver when the vehicle begins to leave a detected lane when the turn signal has not been activated.
How Does LKAS work?
Uses camera mounted between the windshield and rearview mirror to detect lane markings.
As the vehicle moves from the center of a detected lane, the electric power steering system applies torque to return the vehicle to the middle of the lane.
To engage system, press the main button the the steering wheel, then press the LKAS button on the steering wheel.
Dotted lane lines will appear in the MID when the system is activated; the lines will become solid when the system detects the lane lines.
Operates between 45 and 95mph and when the turn signal has not been activated on straight or slightly curved roads.
May apply torque when lane lines suddenly change.
Press the main or LKAS button to disengage system. Must be reengaged each time the car is turned on.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
Provides visual and audible alerts to the driver if it determines a collision w/ a vehicle detected ahead is possible while traveling over 10mph.
How does FCW work?
Depending on model, FCW uses the windshield mounted camera and/or the radar unit to detect vehicles ahead.
FCW indicator will flash in instrument panel and a series of beeps will sound; on Accord models, an amber light will flash at the base of the windshield and some models display a BRAKE message on the MID.
Distance alerts can be adjusted in vehicle settings to Long, Normal, Short or Off. Indicator light will stay on as long as the system is off.
May not work in inclement weather, w/ extreme interior heat or id the camera and/or radar unit are blocked.
May not detect all objects such as motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian.
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
Helps reduce the likelihood of a collision by alerting the driver and/or helps reduce the severity of an impact when unavoidable.
How does CMBS work?
Uses windshield mounted camera and radar unit to scan 330ft of the road ahead.
Stage 1: if risk of collision is detected ahead, a BRAKE message will flash in the MID and audible alert may sound as well depending on the distance setting.
Stage 2: Driver takes no action and risk of collision increased, light braking will be applied in addition to the visual and audible alerts.
Stage 3: Driver still takes no action and the system determines a collision is unavoidable, strong breaking will be applied to mitigate the forces of the collision, though this may not stop the vehicle completely.
May not detect all objects such as motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian.
Needs adequate amount of time to detect obstacles.
Might deliver a false warning when passing a car too closely, the road has a sharp curves while coming upon a metal object, such as a road sign or there are train tracks at the bottom of a hill.
Warning message will display in MID if there is a fault in the system. If cleaning the area in front of the radar unit does not help, take in to be serviced.
To disengage system, press the CBMS button to the left of the steering column.
Adaptive Cruise Control ACC
Maintains constant cruse speed as well as a set following interval when it approaches a preceding vehicle.q
How does ACC work?
Uses radar unit to detect the distance vehicles ahead and sets the appropriate throttle position and can even apply light braking to keep a set following distance.
To engage system, press the main button on the steering wheel; an ACC icon will appear on instrument panel. When the desired cruising speed is achieved, which must be above 25 mph, press the -/ SET button on the steering wheel.
The MID will display the set speed as well as up to 4 distance bars indicating the following distance as well as a dotted vehicle outline; when a preceding vehicle is detected the outline will become solid and a beep will sound.
Use the distance button on the steering wheel to adjust the following intervals to Short, Middle, Long & Very Long.
Following distances will increase w/ speed.
Press the + and - to increase & decrease the set speed.
To disengage, press the Main or Cancel buttons on the steering wheel or depress the brake peddle.
Press and hold the distance button to set it to operate as traditional cruise control; MID will display Cruise Mode Selected. Do the same to reengage ACC and MID will display ACC Mode Selected.
May not detect all objects such as motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian.
May mistake stationary objects as preceding vehicles, especially on curves.
Should not be engaged in inclement weather, heavy traffic or on slippery surfaces.
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
Provides tactile alerts to the driver and applies torque and braking to keep car on detected road.
How does RDM work?
Uses windshield mounted camera to detect road lines.
Vibrates steering wheel to alert driver that the vehicle is drifting out of a detected road.
If vehicle continues to drift, RDM applies torque to keep vehicle in the detected lane; if it seems that the torque is insufficient to keep the vehicle from drifting, the system will apply braking.
If the system engages several times w/o driver response, the system will beep to alert you.
To disengage, press the RDM button to the left of the steering column.
Can change to warning only in vehicle settings.
Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure
ACE incorporates a solid steel cabin w/ crush structures on either side of the engine as well as to the side, above and below the bumper.
This allows the car to absorb the energy of the impact and push it around the cabin, instead of straight to the cabin & its passengers,
Especially advantageous w/ impacts involving vehicles of different heights and that are offset on impact.
Multi-Angle Rearview Camera
Standard on all 2015 and above Honda Vehicles; select models come w/ dynamic guidelines.
Normal view is great for backing up.
Wide view is great for checking oncoming traffic when backing out.
Top-Down view is great for parallel parking or lining up a trailer hitch.
Press the interface dial or the on-screen icon on touch screen models to switch views.
Airbags
Every Honda Model is equipped w/ Sophisticated Airbag Systems designed to help minimize injury in the case of a sufficient impact.
Dual-Stage, Multiple Threshold Front Airbags w/ 2 stage inflator
Low speed impact or lack of seatbelt use triggers the stages sequentially for a lower deployment rate and force to reduce airbag related injury.
High speed impact and seatbelt use triggers both stages to deploy simultaneously for a faster deployment rate for optimum protection.
Front airbags will deploy at a lower inflation rate if the driver’s seat is too close to the steering wheel.
Weight sensors in the passenger seat will
