She introduced the idea of going out to help others and not waiting for them to come to us.

Lillian advocated for social issues bc she felt that health problems and social problems were heavily related.
(Those living in poverty are more likely to have health problems - including children).

She lived in the mountains and developed frontier nursing services. The infant and maternal mortality death rate was too high. So she trained midwives to go out and find people who needed maternal care.
