Hemolytic Anemias Flashcards
-Recessive trait resulting in abnormal Hgb and RBC cell shape -Hemolytic Anemia -Jaundice, splenomegaly, LE ulcers
Sickle-Cell Anemia
-IgG binds RBC–> conformational change–> trapped in spleen -Fatigue, dyspnea, splenomegaly
Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia
-RBC spherical not biconcave -Results in hemoloysis from trapping of RBCs in spleen and their subsequent removal -Anemia not always present
Hereditary spherocytosis
-Hereditary enzyme defect–>Hgb denatures-> RBC removed in spleen–>Episodic hemolytic anemia -Usually asymptomatic, but can flare with infection or exposure to drugs -More common in AA -Heinz Bodies
G6PD Deficiency
-RBCs lysed by complement -Episodic hemoglobinuria
Paroxysmal nocturnal Hemaglobinuria
