Q
What are the 3 Malfunctions?
A
- CHD
- Angina
- Hypertension
2
Q
CHD?
A
- Occurs when the Coronary Arteries are blocked with fatty deposits, preventing blood flow to the heart.
- Risk Factors: High cholesterol, Lack of exercise, Smoking.
- Symptoms: Chest pain, Shortness of breath, Feeling faint
- How is it diagnosed: risk assessment takes place to check family history; blood test can be taken to check cholesterol levels.

Q
Angina?
A
- Occurs due to reduced blood flow to the heart, causing chest pain.
- Risk Factors: Alcohol use, Unhealthy eating habits, Smoking.
- Symptoms: Breathlessness, Chest pain, Nausea
- How is it diagnosed: chest x-ray can be done to eliminate other concerns; blood tests can also be used.
4
Q
Hypertension?
A
- High blood pressure
- If blood pressure is elevated, arteries have to work harder to pump blood, meaning heart muscle gets thicker, reducing blood flow.
- Risk Factors: Unhealthy diets, Lack of physical activity, Being overweight.
- Symptoms: Rarely noticeable, but if untreated could lead to heart attacks (myocardial infarctions).
- How is it diagnosed: if blood pressure is greater or equal to 130/80 mmHg, in 2 or more separate readings.
