What is aetiology?
It is the study and analysis of the causation of disease.
What does sporadic mean?
A disease that occurs irregularly and infrequently
What does endemic mean?
The constant presence and/or usual prevalence of a disease or infectious agent in a population within a geographic area.
What is a cluster?
An aggregation of cases grouped in place and time that are suspected to be greater than the number expected, even if the expected number isn’t known
What does epidemic mean?
An increase, often sudden, in the number of cases of a disease above what is normally expected in the population of that area
What does pandemic mean?
An epidemic that has spread over several countries or continents, usually affecting a large number of people
What is a trend?
Whether the disease is increasing or decreasing numbers
What are patterns?
Whether the disease affects a specific group or related to a specific factor
What are therapeutic measures?
Interventions that treat, mitigate or postpone the affects of disease
What are preventative measures?
Interventions that prevent disease from occurring and reduce the incidence of disease
What is a communicable disease?
Diseases that are transferred from one organism to another.
